NLC’s Cities of Opportunity initiative offers ways for city leaders and their partners to comprehensively address health and wellbeing. It has various engagement levels for city leaders, their staff, and partners to meet them where they are. The initiative offers coaching, consulting, peer learning, and convenings focused on the intersection of health, housing, race and equity, and economic development. Applications are open for the Action Cohort and Community of Practice are open now.
The National League of Cities has a new open opportunity for mayors and city teams to participate in the Mayors’ Institute to Spur Job Creation and Economic Opportunity to Advance Health and Equity. The Institute, in partnership with the Democracy Collaborative, seeks to build the capacity of mayors, with other city leaders and experts, to guide strategies to advance economic opportunity and community wealth building. To that end, city teams will explore a diverse array of strategies including collaboration with state and federal governments, social enterprise, entrepreneurship, the role of anchor institutions, data, and technology, among other efforts.

NLC recently launched its Cities of Opportunity Learning Lab. It is a quarterly peer learning group where municipal leaders work together to discuss ways to effectively use data, different financing approaches, to build multi-sector collaborations, and develop comprehensive approaches to address housing, economic opportunity, and city planning & design.
